Fall = Fun + Family + Farms

Fall is definitely one of my most favorites times of the year--the beautiful colors of the leaves, the crisp chill in the air, and of course everything pumpkin!  This fall has been especially enjoyable for me, and last weekend was no exception! My Saturday was dedicated to spending quality time with my ADORABLE sister-in-law, Madison. And let me tell you, it was the ultimate girls' night! We made a trip to Target, where we stocked up on everything--popcorn, candy, princess masks, and more!  We made our princess masks which I must say were pretty awesome! We also played "beauty salon" and I received the total pampering treatment! I had my hair and nails done. Check out my awesome manicure! We ended the night with popcorn and a movie, and guess who was the first to fall asleep... ME!  That girl totally wore me out! :) On Sunday morning, we got together with my family and visited Huber's Family Farm in Indiana. Madison loved every minute of it! We got...

Can I Have S'more of Those Please?

Happy Wednesday!  In my last post, I told you that I wanted to share a recipe for the most adorable and delicious treats that I made for a tailgating party a few weeks ago. So, here it is... I found this idea on Pinterest (where else?), and immediately decided to make them for the tailgate party that weekend.  The pin on Pinterest linked me to Julie's post on  " the family kitchen " which gave me the recipe and some awesome photos of the creation process and the finished products!  I altered my recipe slightly and skipped the "mix heavy cream with the chocolate chips" step.  And I'm not sure if they used semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips, but my chocolate was not as dark as in their photos... I used milk chocolate chips in mine. To create these delightful treats (based on my alterations) you'll need: -1 bag of large/jumbo marshmallows -2 to 3 cups of milk chocolate chips -Small bowl of graham cracker crumbs (I didn't measure th...

Update on Our New Fitness Routine

In my last post, I was telling you about Tilton's  and my decision to join a gym and get fit.  Well, so far we are very pleased with that decision! Yay!   I was able to make it to the gym SIX days the first week and FIVE days the second--I must admit, I was pretty surprised/impressed with myself!  I decided to choose Saturday as my "rest day" for those two weeks, being that it's football season and I have prior commitments to tailgating and all. :) Which reminds me that I have to tell you about the adorable and delicious treats I made for tailgating this weekend! But back to the update!  The first week I worked out on the elliptical machine each day.  It's one of those with the arms that move as you move, which I love because I feel like my upper body gets a little workout too. The second week I decided to switch it up and opted for the treadmill, which I surprisingly love more! I like using the machines because I can punch in my weight and age and...

A Time for Change...

I finally did it... I joined a gym! I am officially a member of Urban Active Fitness , and I'm really looking forward to making some changes in my lifestyle over the next few weeks. I've always considered myself to be a pretty healthy person... most of the time. But I've always been aware that there is definite room for improvement in both my eating and exercise habits. Eating healthy seems to be a lot easier for me than exercising, so I decided that changing my activity and increasing my exercise should be a primary focus for me right now. Tilton and I are always looking for ways to improve our lifestyle, and a few weeks ago we discussed the option of joining a gym. Now, I've always had the mindset of "Why pay money to join a gym when you can just go outside and walk or run?". Well, that kind of outlook is all good and great, if you can actually do that. But I've found that this approach doesn't work for me.  I always seem to find an excuse... ...

Showering My Sister With Love...

My baby sister is getting married in 67 days!  I cannot believe it is so soon!  I have the honor of standing up with her on her special day as her matron-of-honor and I couldn’t be more thrilled!  As her matron-of-honor, my first task was to host her bridal shower, which was this past Sunday.  This was her first bridal shower, and the first event that I've ever hosted.  I was so thankful to have the chance to make this day special for her, and I think she loved it! Her wedding colors are fushia and orange, which I love because they are so bright and fun! I went crazy using the colors, but also mixed in some splashes of white as well. For the centerpieces I kept it pretty simple.  I used clear vases and wrapped them with white yarn.  Then I wrapped pink and orange ribbon around the yarn.  I filled these vases with white and orange flowers (I apologize for the blurriness of this picture...I'm still working on my photography skills). ...

We Moved...Again!

It’s been a while since I last posted, but not because I’ve been slacking!   We’ve been SO SUPER busy packing and moving!   Yep… that’s right!   We have a new place! And we LOVE it! We’ve been back in Louisville for a little over a year, and our first place that we rented when we moved here was great, but it was so tiny and we needed more space.   So we started looking a few weeks ago, and found a great place that we loved!   It’s in the Highlands in Louisville and only about ½ mile from Bardstown Road, which is my FAVORITE area of the whole city! We have TWO bedrooms now, an AWESOME kitchen with TONS of space to cook, a nice big living room that we can relax in, and LOTS of windows! The bathroom is a little smaller than I would like, but I can definitely live with that… everything else makes up for it! Our neighborhood is really nice and has lots of trees and walking paths, which we’ve already started putting to good use.   And I can’t wait to ...

February New Thing!

In my first post of 2012 I told you about the resolution that Tilton and I made to try one new thing each month.  In January we went tubing at Paoli Peaks in Paoli, Indiana, and last Sunday we completed our “February New Thing”.  I surprised Tilton (well, TRIED to surprise him, but he discovered my secret plan on Saturday afternoon—it was completely my fault… I’m terrible at being sneaky) with tickets to go zip-lining at the Louisville Mega Cavern ! And IT. WAS. AWESOME. Don’t get me wrong, I was completely scared out of my mind once we got into the cavern and onto the zip-line course…but it was one of those exciting scary feelings, where you get that rush of adrenaline and you love every second of it! And our tour guides were fantastic and hilarious!  We even learned a few cool factoids on the tour.  For example, did you know that the Mega Cavern is mostly made of limestone, which helps support two of Kentucky’s biggest moneymakers—Horse racing and bourbon making...

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

I hope you had a wonderful February 14 th , and I hope that you got to spend some time with someone that you love!  I was VERY lucky because I was able to spend my Valentine’s evening with my TWO loves! Since Tilton and I have been together (we celebrated our 7 th Valentine’s Day this year), we’ve always been sure to make Valentine’s Day simply about spending time together.  We’ve never made a big deal about gifts, and if gifts are exchanged, they’re simple and more about the gesture or the thought, rather than spending a lot of money.  And this year was no exception! Since the very first Valentine’s Day that we spent together, I’ve always made Tilton homemade Rice Krispie treats, which are one of his favorite things.  I’ve started a tradition of making them for him and his Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without them.  But these are no ordinary Rice Krispie treats.  They're extra special because I make them heart-shaped! Awe!  This year I decid...

NEW YEAR, NEW ADVENTURES...

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Yes, I realize that I’m a teeny bit late, but seeing as this is my first post for 2012, I thought it necessary to say!  For the New Year Kyle and I decided to make a resolution together, and I’m pretty in love with the idea!  Our goal for 2012 is to try at least one new thing every month.  It can be a new food or restaurant, a new activity, or anything else we can come up with.  We realized that we’ve been so busy with school and work, that we haven’t really given ourselves the chance to experience Louisville and life in general.  So, we are working on changing that, and are planning our new adventures for the upcoming months. For our “January New Thing” we went tubing at Paoli Peaks in Paoli, Indiana.  We bundled ourselves up and made the hour and a half trip north with my sister and a few of my cousins for night time tubing.  And we had a BLAST! I have to admit that I was a little nervous at first, but after a few times down the h...
