Little Man or Little Miss Gender Reveal Party...

As exciting as it was to find out that we were pregnant, I think Tilton and I were even more excited to find out if Little Nugget was a boy or a girl!  In the weeks leading up to our 20 week ultrasound, we debated whether we really wanted to find out Little Nugget's sex before his or her arrival in September.  We both loved the IDEA of a surprise, but knew that we couldn't wait another 5 months to find out if we were having a boy or a girl.  And me, being the Type A, control freak that I can sometimes be am, knew that I would need to know before his or her arrival to be fully prepared to bring our sweet baby home!  And let's face it, shopping is just WAY more fun when you know if you are shopping for a boy or girl!

After much discussion, we finally agreed that we would find out, and decided to host a gender reveal party so that our family and friends could join in the excitement. When we went in for our 20 week ultrasound, we made sure to tell the technician that we were planning a gender reveal party and didn't want to know if we were having a boy or a girl just yet.  Instead of telling us, she wrote the gender down a on piece of paper and put it in an envelope for us.
Then, we had to play the waiting game, because the party was still TWO WEEKS AWAY!

Those that know me, know that I absolutely LOVE entertaining and planning parties, so you can imagine my excitement for this particular party!  I immediately began scouring Pinterest for gender reveal party themes, decorations, and other ideas.  I decided on a "Little Man or Little Miss" theme and focused on a grey, pink, and blue color scheme.  I found these amazing invites from Dazzle Expressions, and fell in love with them!  I ordered our personalized invites and a digital copy was emailed to me the next day.  I had them printed from Walgreens.com on stationary paper.  They turned out perfectly!
I loved the mustache and bow on the invitations, so I decided to carry those into the party decorations. I also made a Gender Prediction Chart to help our guests decide what gender they would vote for.
You can see that there were a few more bows than mustaches on there! :)

I had fun picking out some small decorations for the party, which of course matched the grey, pink, and blue color scheme.  I especially LOVED the paper straws!
For the big reveal, we decided to go the "balloons in a box" route.  I found a big packing box at Staples and decorated it using scrapbook paper.  It was very easy and inexpensive.  About 3 days before the party, I went to the nearest party store and asked them to help with our big surprise.  I gave them the sealed envelope, and picked out a variety of pink and blue balloons, and asked them to look in the envelope after I left, and to use the appropriate color balloons to fill our box.  They were more than happy to help!  On Saturday, my cousin Kim picked the balloons up for us, so there was no chance that we would see them before we opened the box.  Kim was the only person that knew Little Nugget's gender before the party, and I LOVE her for being able to keep the big secret for us!
When it was finally time for the big reveal everyone gathered in our living room.  We had originally planned for the party to take place outdoors, but Mother Nature had other plans, and it ended up raining ALL.DAY.LONG.  But we made the best of it and still had an amazing time. So, like I said, everyone gathered in the living room and the excitement for the big moment was crazy!

I love these pictures of everyone waiting!

My sweet sister-in-law, Madison, couldn't quite decide if she wanted Little Nugget to be a girl...
 Or a boy...

My sweet friends from college were able to make the trip!  Little Nugget is going to have some amazing aunts! And uncles!

We had a few differences of opinion...

(Please excuse the incredibly empty walls in this photo!  We had just moved into our new house about 2 weeks before the party, so we still had a bit of work to do!)

And we FINALLY found out that we are having a.....

GIRL!!!!

I particularly LOVE this picture!  My best friend Val, who lives in South Carolina, wasn't able to make it to the party, so we used FaceTime to make sure she could be there to see the big reveal.  She took a few screenshots when we opened the box and the pictures were awesome!  They were a little blurry, but I love that you can see the balloons coming out, and of course I LOVE her expression! :)

We were also lucky to have a few people video the reveal, and watching it makes me so happy!
You can click on the link below to watch it!

We had such an amazing day, and having our families and friends there to share in our excitement was incredible!  Our sweet girl, Tilly Brooke, is going to be so loved, and I can't wait for her to know all of our loved ones like we do!

Until next time...

Easy-Peasy Teacher Appreciation Gifts

My little bits just finished up her first year of preschool (PS1) last week, and just started her second year (PS2) this week.  Her first year at her school was nothing short of amazing, and I'm so happy with our decision to start her in the program last August.  Her teachers for PS1 were the best, so I wanted to give them a little something to show our appreciation and gratitude for all of the love, time, and patience they poured into our girl over the past 12 months.  I wanted to keep it simple, and give them something that they could appreciate and actually use, and eventually decided on a small succulent arrangement and a Starbucks gift card.  Because who isn't obsessed with succulents and coffee  right now always?!? I put the succulent arrangements together myself, and I love the way they turned out!  I picked up the white planters at Hobby Lobby for around $5 each.  The succulents came from Home Depot (their selection was HUGE) and ranged in...

Becoming a Runner: Week 4 Update

I now have 4 weeks of running under my belt, and I have to say that it feels amazing!   I made an improvement from my previous two weeks, and ran 4 days last week.   My goal was to run 5 days, and while I fell short of meeting that, I’m still so happy with my progress.   We were blessed with some AMAZING weather in Louisville last week, which definitely improved my mood and my motivation.   It was sunny and so much warmer, and running in 50 degrees is, without a doubt, easier than running in those freezing temperatures I ‘d been facing! Here’s what I did for Week 4 (January 11 – January 17): Day 22 (1.11.15): 2 mile jog <<Make up from Original Day 16, Supposed to do a 2 mile jog>> Day 23 (1.12.15): 1 mile jog, ¼ mile walk, 1 mile jog <<Make up from Day 17, Supposed to do a 1 mile jog, ¼ mile walk, 1 mile jog, ¼ mile walk, 1 mile jog>> Day 24 (1.13.15): Rest <<Supposed to do a 1 ½ mile jog, ¼ mile walk, 2 mile jog>> ...

Becoming a Runner: Week 3 Update

Week 3 of my 30-Day Running Challenge was similar to Week 2 in that it was not very exciting.   It’s been very cold here in Louisville—like, walk outside and you immediately freeze where you stand cold.   And because getting out of bed on time in the morning is a daily struggle for me, and I work 10+ hour shifts a day, my runs are limited to nighttime, when it’s blistering cold and all I want to do is crawl under a cozy blanket and cuddle with Tilton while watching our shows.   Needless to say, finding the motivation to run when I get home from work has been tough.   I’m doing my best to stick with it though.   During Week 3 (January 4 – January 10), I only ran 3 days again.   Bummer. Here’s what I did for Week 3: Day 15 (1.4.15): Rest (SICK) <<Supposed to be a rest day>> Day 16 (1.5.15): 2 ½ mile jog <<Make up from Original Day 12, Supposed to do 2 mile jog>> Day 17 (1.6.15): Rest <<Supposed to do a 1 mile jo...
