Over the Fourth of July weekend, Kyle and I decided to take a trip up north to Chicago. I first experienced the beautiful city last September while visiting my good friend, Christina, and Kyle hadn’t visited Chicago since middle school. I was dying to go back, and Kyle was excited to see it with grown-up eyes. We hadn’t taken a trip together since our honeymoon last May, so we were long overdue for a getaway!
We arrived in Chicago on Saturday afternoon and immediately set out to see the sites. We had an amazing dinner at a little Italian restaurant, Coco Pazzo. It was absolutely THE BEST pasta I’ve ever had. Then we headed down to Navy Pier to have drinks and watch the fireworks show. It was so crowded, but so much fun! We even got to witness a couple get engaged during the fireworks show!
Our Sunday started with a visit to Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower). We traveled the 103 stories up to see Chicago from the sky. We were able to see the whole city and even take some fun pictures in the crazy windows that let you step outside of the building.
The rest of our day was spent exploring the shops along Michigan Avenue and exploring the city. We literally shopped until we dropped! But the most surprising part about all of our shopping… I didn’t buy a single thing! We visited the famous Bean, Buckingham Fountain, and walked along Lake Michigan.
Later Sunday evening we had dinner at Harry Caray’s Tavern at Navy Pier, before calling it a day.
On Monday we only had a few hours to spend before we had to head back home, so we visited the Field Museum so Kyle could get his history fix. We saw quite a few exhibits, but two hours is nowhere near enough time to see everything. We will definitely be visiting the museum again on our next trip to the city.
Kyle and I have talked about the possibility of relocating to a new city when we are both finished with school, and Chicago is one of the places we’ve considered. Of course we could never make that decision based on one trip together, so many more trips to the Windy City will be necessary!
Until next time…
